Factory ropeways are generally understood to be private
ropeways for passenger transport (or combined passenger
and goods transport), free use of which is generally only
available to a limited, clearly defined group of people.
As their name suggests, these systems are often used on
industrial and commercial sites, e.g. by power suppliers
operating alpine storage power stations. Just as important
a role is played by factory ropeways in the agricultural
sector, for supplying mountain lodges, as an internal
means of transport at sports facilities, etc.
Factory ropeways are not bound to a ropeway technology
system or to a specific number of passengers. An international
comparison of factory ropeways shows quite clear differences
due to different safety regulations.
Steuer designs factory ropeways mainly as compact jig-back
ropeways with cabins which, even in the case of intended
lower capacity (from 2 persons), are financially viable
investments and operations. Nonetheless there are special
areas of use where we design and implement factory ropeways
as (unidirectional) contionuously circulating ropeways,
winch-driven systems or funiculars.
