In contrast to other capital goods, ropeways have a very
long service life. A working life of 50 years is not unusual
for a ropeway.
During this time period, ropeways are not only maintained,
they are also often converted. The reasons for this may
be changing legal regulations as much as the desire to
increase capacity and/or comfort.
